Bludrut KeepWritten by Felspar
"What? No I won't come with you! Though I might be willing to offer a few words of advice if ya happen to have a keg of good stout ale." "You do? Well isn't that handy. Sit yourself down and we'll see what we can't remember..." "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away..." "Whoops! Wrong story. Let's see now... There was once a man from Nantucket an-- That's not it either? Hmm. Here we are! " "Peace-loving Queen Tyrall has seen her small realm plundered and taken over by a darkness demon know only as the Groglurk. Those few who survived say that the Groglurk holds her captive still to this day, after many years, in the remains of her realm: the deep dungeon below the ruins of Bludrut Keep. It is said that a great reward awaits the Adventurer who defeats the Groglurk and frees the Queen." "That the right one? Good. Now back in my day, when a darkness demon takes over a realm, captures the Queen and holds her captive, the least he could do is publicly state what's in it for the Adventurer who kills the demon, frees the Queen and restores peace to the land. Hah! Nowadays they all have copies of 'The Top 100 Things I'd Do if I Ever Became An Evil Overlord' and actually follow the advice. The Heroes Union is still up in arms about that. " "But back to the treasure. I've heard rumors that a magical sword lies in the throne room, locked away inside a chest. Some say that it's element fluctuates between fire and darkness, others say it's a bunny in disguise. No one's quite sure. Let me draw an incredibly accurate depiction of the blade in question right here in the dirt with this awkward axe handle."
"Of course, you have to get there first. I still have a few scrolls with some maps that I sketched out, you might want to take a look at them."
"Well lookie here, it's my old journal. This should have some helpful information for you. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to spend some quality time with my ale."
Monster EncountersThe monsters that you'll encounter on any given level are randomly selected from a list of monsters unique to that level. Let's say I just entered Level 1: I have equal chance of facing a Dark Knight, a Stone Golem, or one of the Undeads. This is totally random. After you have dispatched the first monster (let's say it was a Dark Knight), the next monster you face will be any one of the 6 remaining monsters (Stone Golem, Undead Archer, etc. but not the Dark Knight). Keep track of what order you face the monsters in, because after you work through the list and have fought each monster once, the game will cycle through the list and give you the same monster that you first started with, in our case a Dark Knight. Dispatch him, and you'll get a Stone Golem next, just as in our first go around. This will continue going in order and will loop again if need be, until you've explored the whole level. !
The dungeon resets itself when you return to town. You can go as far as the cave entrance and still keep your progress, but if you go to Twilly to get healed, you'll have to fight all the monsters again. Heal All potions
A Note on Equipment SelectionThe following suggestions have been offered with regards to what works best on what level of the keep. It's important to note that there is no ultimate combo, no perfect weapon that assures victory. The right equipment for you is the equipment that works. Elements, stats, character type and play style all influence what type of gear you'll buy, and what works for someone else won't necessarily work for you. Try going through the keep a few times and determine where your weak points are. Do you always get killed on the third level? Buy something that reflects that. Always loose a battle with your enemy only 2 hits away from death? Train up your endurance. Can't afford the weapon that everyone is raving about? Make up for it by getting a hole bunch of health potions before descending into the keep. The advice offered below is a jumping off point for you to use when molding and forming your own character. Level 1The Undead Level
Level 2The Fire Level
! Groglurk attacks with a double dark melee attack. Level 3The Ice Level
Level 4The Final Level
! Angered Groglurk attacks with a quadruple dark magic attack. Fighting the Angered GroglurkOnce you've found the Angered Groglurk, the next time you come to battle the monster, you should properly equip your character right before you fight the Groglurk. That is, ready your pet and summon a guest if you're able while battling the monster right before you are to battle the Groglurk. Then after you finish off that monster, go get a Heal All, and then go fight the Groglurk. This eliminates needing to waste 2 turns casting a guest and readying your pet, and you can go in to the fight fully refreshed. If you're still unable to vanquish your foe, try getting a few extra potions before entering the keep, such as by doing the Seed Spitter quest. If that still isn't enough, try getting the WereWolf Form by doing the Willow Creek quest.
FinishingTo get back out, you'll need to backtrack all the way back up to Level 1. If you clear the entire Keep (explore every room on every level), the total amount of gold and experience you receive will be within the following ranges: Minimum Gold for Keep: 2,761 Minimum Experience for Keep: 10,527 Thanks to Stephen Noel Laddusaw for use of the 'Dwarven Veteran' picture. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
